Russell Frederick is a self-taught photographer from Brooklyn, New York. He is an educator, commissioned photographer and benefactor of several grants from the Open Society Foundation, New York Foundation of the Arts and many more. Frederick won an award from the Gordan Parks International Photography Competition for his work in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and is a member of Kamoinge, Inc., a photo collective of African-American photographers in New York. Frederick’s work has been published in The New York Times, the Associated Press, PDN, Slate, New York magazine among several other international publications. His photographs are in the permanent collections at Gordon Parks Museum in Kansas, the Open Society Foundation, and the Danny Simmons archives. His work is represented by Keystone photo agency.
